What We Do

The U.Va. Parents Committee mission:

To enhance the student experience for all University of Virginia students.

To achieve this mission, the committee distributes funds through an annual grant process to dozens of student organizations, including academic teams, club sports teams, multicultural groups and organizations that foster interactions between students, university faculty and administrators.

Funding from the Parents Committee has purchased components for U.Va. Alerts, the text message system for students, parents and faculty in case of an emergency, and the siren system across Grounds. The Parents Fund enabled the University to move forward with a GPS program for the University bus system to allow students to track their bus from any computer or cell phone.

The committee also provides resources to parents. The Parent Handbook, the Off-Grounds Housing Safety Guide and the Academic Calendar postcard were developed by committee members to fill needs they saw as parents in the U.Va. community.

In addition to meaningful, direct impact with students, the Parents Committee offers its members opportunities to network with other parents of U.Va. students and provides an additional link to the University.
