Development/Membership Committee

Members of the Development Committee concentrate on marketing ideas and methods of solicitation to encourage contributions to the Parents Annual Fund.

Past outreach opportunities have included:

  • Personally contacting other parents to ask for support
  • Identifying area parents for potential solicitation and recommending the best method of contact
  • Working with the University in identifying large gift donors
  • Greeting new parents at the summer orientation resource fair
  • Hosting and/or attending send-off events

Each summer, committee members not only recruit new members from their home states but also seek to grow committee representation across the country. Methods of recruitment include:

  • Direct Referral- A current committee member knows a new parent from the same hometown, boarding school, or has developed a friendship with parents through their children’s U.Va. friendships. The majority of new committee members come through direct referrals each year.
  • Summer Orientation– Committee members volunteer at an information table, answer questions concerning the committee and the Parents Committee, and provide applications for joining.
  • Online– Parents complete the online registration form and join the committee without any prior contact.
