2012 Application Instructions

The Parents Committee of the U.Va. Fund is supported by parents of U.Va. students.  Each year, the Committee provides grants to student and University organizations.  The Committee's objective is to improve the life and experience of current students.
 
The Gilbert J. Sullivan--Parents Program Endowed Scholarship has been established to help defray the educational expenses of a current non-legacy student.  Application is open to any rising third-year, non-legacy student currently eligible to receive financial aid from the Office of Financial Aid.  Selection will be based on demonstrated records of citizenship, leadership, academic achievement and financial need.  The award will cover a portion of tuition and fees for the student's third and fourth years.

 
The application will be composed of the following items:

  • Typed personal essay of no more than 350 words (1500 character maximum).  The essay should address the selection criteria of citizenship, leadership and academic achievement as well as any specific personal circumstances about which the selection committee should know.
  • Brief resume.
  • Recommendation from one University of Virginia professor or administrator. *Recommendation from one University of Virginia professor or administrator must be sent to the Parents Committee via uvaparentscommittee [at] virginia [dot] edu (e-mail) by the deadline.*

For the 2011-2012 academic year selection process, the application form will be made available by December 1, 2011, and the deadline will be March 2, 2012 by 5:00pm EST.

All materials will be retained by the Parents Committee and all applicants will be notified of the committee's decision during April 2012.
